Build 1.6.3 Empty Build 1.6.3

Post by Admin Wed Jun 12, 2013 11:56 am

Build 1.6.3 will be out shortly.

Please Please Please!!! Before updating open the app and turn off “Start GPS on Manual Launch” and turn off “Use Distance Instead of time” then save your settings. Then update the app!

This update should make the fix for distance staying on when sitting still. Distance locating has been tested only as low as 300 meters. Any lower when moving at highway speeds may cause update failures.

As I explained in a previous email, even though you get a good location from the gps you’re signal may not allow for you to update the server quickly enough and you will not get that location point. As I choose real time updating this is just the way it works. If your updates fail 5 times you will get a little warning window. It will not stop the process. Simply warn you that it missed 5 updates.

For those who care I will explain the issue.

IOS uses 2 basic functions for GPS. One that just gets it and one that watches for significant location changes. The later was created for conserving battery power. Problem is it is not very reliable or accurate. And this causes it to stop in the background.

So what I did was basically what most other gps apps do. When you choose to get location by distance I simply fire up the GPS radio and constantly check you location as you move. If it exceeds your distance settings then it updates HS. Make no doubt running in distance mode can be more draining on the battery, but if we want accurate location it has to be done.

Thanks again for all the help,
Greg

Well I'm going on over 30 min now stationary and it appears to be working. I noticed you got rid of the battery plugged in feature. Are you still gonna develop that?

Go take a drive. And don't open the app first! Then when you get back check HS and see if it logged. But it sounds like we are getting closer!

Yes still developing the plugged in thing. Little quirk though. If your plugged in before launching the app it won't detect it. Unplug it and you should see it change. Plug it back in and it will change again.

Its meant to detect it when the app is running in the back ground. Still lots of testing to do though.
